Established Role: the contract position defined to help you see the big picture
Working closely with the Content Lead and Business Manager(s), the Copy Editor, acting in an Independent Contractor capacity, edits web content, while prioritizing user-focused and helpful information. The Copy Editor has a strong understanding of igaming, as well as a solid understanding of content marketing. The incumbent exhibits a passionate and energetic attitude, constantly striving to enhance the quality of content and achieve the business's commercial objectives.
As a key cog in our content team, the Copy Editor is responsible for editing editorial and evergreen content on designated client websites. This role also supports with posting content and will assist in making the user experience a desirable one, through fact-checking and proofreading processes. The Copy Editor helps the team reach the gold standard for compelling, accurate iGaming content, ensuring page quality that will consistently help increase web traffic.
Established Priorities: what’s important and where you should spend your time each day
- Copy editing new and existing content for web properties, with a focus on providing users with excellent, share-worthy, and insightful content;
- Fact-checking, copy editing and ensuring each piece of content meets our organization’s best practice for helpful content;
- Ensuring content adheres to SEO best practices;
- Coaching teams and writers on how to copy edit effectively;
- Helping teams to adhere to brand styling on assigned websites;
- Ensuring pages are laid out in a user-friendly manner, that they look right on both desktop/mobile, and that links aren’t broken;
- Re-writing small to medium-sized passages of text to ensure they deliver based on the page’s purpose;
- Effectively using all resources at hand to meet tight deadlines;
- Run a small team of freelance copy editors; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Primary Qualifications: determined skills and experience for greater success in this position
- 2 to 3+ years of experience editing and/or managing content for brands or publishers;
- Undergraduate degree in liberal arts or communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, media studies, and/or related fields;
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite;
- Strong editorial judgment, writing and editing skills;
- Deep understanding of best SEO practices for content;
- Extreme attention to detail: A keen eye with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment;
- Proactive team player with strong interpersonal skills;
- Vast knowledge of international and domestic sports, plus sports betting terminology;
- Experience with WordPress CMS;
- Excellent organizational, content management, and editorial skills.
